Quit getting in the way of your own success!

I am sooo frustrated and annoyed!
I meet so many amazing & talented individuals every single day and it still astounds me how many of these rockstars are getting in the way of their own success. When we grew up we were told, we could be whatever we wanted to be, but somewhere between adolescence and adulthood it all became very serious, structured, responsible and limits were put on us. Success for you may be working in your dream field, getting that upcoming promotion or new job or even being an amazing leader inspiring your team.
If this rings true for you then this article is your wake up call for me to ask – are you living your best life and living YOUR version of success? Ask yourself these 3 questions and if it’s not a resounding yes to all of them, then it’s time to give yourself an upper cut and get back on track.
Are you fulfilling your purpose in your current job?
Do you know your why? Does your work align with your values? Do you feel fulfilled and enriched by the tasks and duties that you perform daily? So many questions here but really…. if you aren’t getting the basics right, then you probably need to reassess your career path. I’ve always been inspired by Lisa Messengers definition of purpose when I’ve hit a crossroads, have a read.
Are you clear on your goals?
Not everyone has a notebook that outlines their 1, 3 and 5-year goals (guilty as charged) but you definitely need to have some goals in place to define your success. Last year I took some time out and worked this through book (this is not a sponsored promo btw) to help me really drill down on my goals. “A goal is a dream with a deadline” and if you don’t know what your goals are and how to measure them…how will you know you’ve been successful?
Are you self-sabotaging?
Procrastination, perfection, distraction, negative self-talk are just some of the signs that you are blocking the activity required to achieve your goals. Seriously, you’ve identified your purpose, set your goals and now you’re choking! It happens to the best of us and I believe that setting up your mind set to accept that you could potentially fail but to try regardless, helps a lot! Give it a go and if all else fails have a read of this little gem to help.
At the end of the day, life is just too short to be living someone else’s life. So don’t be afraid to be bold, buck the expectations and take control!
