This month I sat down with Heather Munro, CEO of RTC. I’ve known Heather for over 10 years and have watched her change roles, organisations, and drive change around her. She’s a leader who works in a male dominated industry, but knows how to hold her own and capture your attention without losing sight of herself. Heather has an incredible calmness about her and if you're lucky enough to have a conversation with her – you’ll definitely walk away with some key insights!
What is your current role and how does it fulfil you?
Currently, I am CEO of the Resources Training Council (RTC). RTC is a member-based organisation driving quality training in the resources industry. I love my role because the work we do ensures that workers go home safely to their families at the end of their shift.
What career decisions and experience led you to where you are today?
I have worked in and around the resources industry for over 30 years. I developed an interest in training in my early 30s and delivered training in leadership and management for a number of years. I then opened a Registered Training Organisation servicing the resources industry and was one of the founding members of RTC in 2011 serving on the Executive committee in a voluntary role until winning the CEO role in 2018.
What’s the one piece of advice you’d give someone wanting to end up where you have?
Grow and nurture your network, know and understand your industry.
